Synopsis

Searching for answers

A young man wanders through a coastal landscape in search of answers. At times, everything seems to exist somewhere in the world around him. At others, the search turns inward.

Autognose follows this movement between the external and internal worlds through an open, contemplative narrative. The sea, the wind, the horizon and the empty spaces are more than a backdrop. They expand the character’s unease and leave room for each viewer to arrive at a personal reading.

The film stars Gabriel Peres and is directed by Bill Szilagyi.

A short film about searching and self-knowledge

The title comes from the idea of autognosis, or knowledge of oneself. The film does not turn that concept into a lesson, nor does it deliver a comfortable answer in its final moment. Its focus is the experience of searching.

Against a wide horizon, the character appears small, but not necessarily lost. The distance between body, sea and sky creates a simple tension: an entire world exists outside, while the question remains intimate.

Produced independently, the short is part of Dumela’s authorial work and represents an early chapter in Bill Szilagyi’s fiction directing.
